If women earned the same amount as men in occupations, their average wages would go up by $2.86 per hour. That estimate from Stats Canada in a new report on women in the workforce.
It has determined women tend to be over represented in low paying occupations and under represented in high-paying ones.
In 2015, women earned 87 cents for every dollar earned by men, averaging $26.11 per hour while men earned an average of $29.86.
Even among those women with a university degree above the Bachelor’s level, they earned 90 cents for every dollar earned by men.
