Women’s basketball final draws record crowd

Saint John came alive this weekend for the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association championship.

The host Port City Fog faced off against the Halifax Thunder in the final on Sunday afternoon.

It was all tied up after the first half, but Halifax went on to win the game 102-93 and take home the Legacy Cup.

The game at TD Station set a league record for attendance with 1,079 fans there to watch.

All six teams in the league took part in the championship, which began on Friday.

Quarter-final action saw Port City beat Windsor 90-68 and Moncton fall to the Halifax Hornets 98-87.

In the consolation game on Saturday, Moncton downed Windsor by a score of 72-49.

Semifinal action saw Port City defeat Fredericton 87-79 and the Halifax Thunder down the Halifax Hornets 72-62.
