There will be one fewer team in the Maritime Hockey League next season.
The Woodstock Slammers have announced they’re taking a one-year leave of absence.
President Wes Corey says in a statement it’s no longer in their best interest to continue operations due to a “combination of factors.”
The team finished near the bottom of the league standings this season, just ahead of the St. Stephen Aces.
“This absence will allow for the potential sale of the franchise and/or provide the opportunity for a new individual or group in Woodstock to assume control of team operations,” says Corey.
Other New Brunswick teams in the league include the Miramichi Timberwolves, Campbellton Tigers and Edmundston Blizzard.
