Work On Oakville Acres Detention Pond Expected to Begin In “Matter Of Months”

A light appears to be at the end of the tunnel for the residents of Oakville Acres in Rothesay when it comes the flooding issue in the subdivision.

A call for tenders has now been issued for the construction of a detention pond in the area which Mayor Bill Bishop tells us will cost the town around $2-million. That call ends on January 27. Bishop says it’s expected that work will begin in a matter of months.

Bishop says while the pond itself will be there for emergency situations, 99-percent of the time it will be a green space which can be used in the summer for walking and sliding in the winter.

The Oakville Acres subdivision was built in a flood plain and the area was hit with severe flooding in 2008 during Tropical Storm Hanna and in 2009 during Tropical Storm Danny.
