World Class Hockey Having Big Impact On Youth

There were a lot of big smiles from young hockey players after hearing a world class game will be played in Bordertown.

The World Under 17 Hockey Challenge will have an exhibition game in St. Stephen this November between Team Canada Red and Team USA.

St. Stephen Minor Hockey Communications Coordinator Cheri Russell says this will be motivational for our youth. “I’m really. really excited. It’s big news not only for our community, but for our little organization of St. Stephen Minor Hockey. We have a lot of young men and women who are currently starting to branch out. When I was a kid, you pretty much played hockey in your own community and that was it, and now kids are getting these bigger opportunities to go to other places. So this exposure for our kids to see what else they can do is monumental, I think, and motivational. I can’t wait.”

Russell told the crowd at the announcement that this will have a huge impact on the St. Stephen Minor Hockey Association, “We’ve been very fortunate here in St. Stephen to be bringing the global stage to our kids, through high level hockey such as the St. Stephen Aces, and now this. They are really fortunate and really lucky, and we are sincerely thankful for the exposure. I want you to know that we are going to be on board to support you in this endeavor and you will certainly witness some St. Stephen hospitality.”

The game will be played November 1st at 7pm at the Garcelon Civic Center in St. Stephen, along with another game in Blacks Harbour at the same time between Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Tickets are now on sale at $10 each.
