New Brunswick-based Xplornet is launching Canada’s first rural 5G standalone network with fixed wireless access.
The broadband provider says the rollout will start in New Brunswick and expand across the province over the next six months.
The company then plans to expand to 250 more rural communities across Canada next year.
President and CEO Allison Lenehan described it as a “significant milestone” for Xplornet and for rural Canadians.
“Our rural 5G network will directly and immediately benefit customers. It will also help create employment, spur innovation and invigorate rural communities across rural Canada,” Lenehan said in a news release.
Xplornet announced the selection of Ericsson as its 56 technology supplier last year.
