The new Saint John police chief on hand for the launch of the Yellowcard campaign which aims to reduce the use of the R-word (retard) in everyday conversation.

We asked Special Olympian Jacques Chaisson of Rothesay how that word makes him feel.

He tells us he feels upset because it’s not a nice word to use and he thinks it should be a curse word.

Chief John Bates says people don’t realize the impact this word has saying it hurts the person with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones.
