The New Brunswick Health Council releasing a brief on the need to improve the state of mental health among young people in the province.
C-E-O Stephane Robichaud says only 29 per cent of young New Brunswickers are getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night and social media appears to be largely responsible.
He says it’s easier now to stay connected with your friends throughout the night and that appears to be one of the factors affecting sleep and youth.
Robichaud says the ability of young people to be resilient and bounce back from adversity depends on getting the right support.
He says the family component tends to be the strongest of the three different sources of support.
The other two sources of support are friends and school but Robichaud says all too often a young person who does have a mental health issue has not idea how to get help.
