The Government of Canada is reporting 29 opioid related deaths in New Brunswick in 2016.
That’s about 1% of a national total of 2,816 opioid related deaths last year, placing New Brunswick eighth out of 13 provinces and territories.
55% of the deaths in New Brunswick were among people aged 40 to 59, with 13.8% taking place among those aged 20 to 29, 17.2% for those between 30 and 49, and 13.8% for those between 60 and 69 years of age.

In the first three months of 2017, New Brunswick has seen 10 apparent opioid related deaths, although nationally the figure is already 602 for January, February and March.
