Public-Private Cancer Research Project Announced In Moncton

A multi-million dollar public-private partnership in cancer research has been announced for the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute in Moncton.

Drug company Merck is investing $2 million in a research project called “Personalize My Treatment”.

Dr. Rodney Ouellette, president of the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute, says this research means one cancer patient won’t necessarily receive the same treatment as another.

“The important thing is that we are tapping into actual patient samples and being able to look at them in real time so then we can adapt therapy,” he says.

Dr. Ouellette says the research trials will recruit as many patients as possible but mainly those with breast cancer, colon cancer and melanoma.

The New Brunswick Health Research Foundation and the Cancer Research Society are each contributing $1 million to this research project.
