Friday Morning Sports For May 1st

NHL playoff action…….Joel Ward scored with 1.3 seconds left in regulation time to give Washington a 2-1 win over the Rangers and 1 game to nothing lead in their series…..Anaheim beat Calgary in the opener of their series 6-1.

In the Majors, the Blue Jays scored five runs in the 5th inning and that was enough to win over Cleveland 5-1……In a big Central Division matchup, Kansas City romped over Detroit 8-1 and the big surprise of the season so far, Houston, improved to 15 and 7 with a 3-2 win over Seattle in 10 innings……In the National League, the New York Mets lost at home for the first time this season, 8-2 to Washington.

In the NBA playoffs, the Los Angeles Clippers defeated defending champion San Antonio 102-96 to force a game 7 and the Chicago Bulls won their series after downing Milwaukee 120-66.

As a result of a forfeit, the Windsor Express have been declared the National Basketball League Canada champions. Game 7 wasn’t played when the Halifax Rainmen didn’t show up. Earlier in the day, there had been a scuffle between the two teams at the morning shoot around.

The NFL draft is underway with Tampa Bay choosing quarterback Jameis Winston of Florida State as the number one pick.
