Saint John Jail Guard Changes Pleas To Guilty

A jail guard at the Saint John Regional Correction Centre facing drug-related charges has changed his pleas from not guilty to guilty which means the case will not move into the trial stage.

Joel Dion Thomas pleading guilty to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana and to being in possession of the proceeds of property under $5000.

City Police seized nearly 28 grams of marijuana when Thomas was arrested and another 72 grams of pot were seized during a search of his home in the city’s South end along with some cash.

Sentencing for Thomas is scheduled for the morning of November 4. A pre-sentence report has been ordered.
