Man Charged After Police Led On A Backhoe Highway Chase

A 27-year-old Alberta man is facing a laundry list of charges following a pursuit on Highway 2 in New Brunswick involving a backhoe.

Thomas Therrien Chiasson was arrested after police received a complaint that a backhoe was travelling in the Upper Kingsclear area, which is outside of Fredericton, without its lights on. Officers caught up with the backhoe but the driver wouldn’t pull over and whacked the guard rail multiple times.

Eventually a spike belt was put down and the vehicle came to a stop in Prince William.

Charges laid against Chiasson include evading a police officer, impaired driving, possession of stolen property over five-thousand-dollars and dangerous driving.

His bail hearing is scheduled for today.
