Kenora Environmental Group Helps Derail Energy East Hearings

Transition Initiative Kenora is becoming the little environmental group that could.

The lobby group was instrumental in having three members of the National Energy Board reviewing the Energy East Project step down over conflict-of-interest concerns last week.

Teika Newton is executive director and admits the resignations caught them off-guard.

She says they had only been asking for the resignation of two of the board members and didn’t expect three people to step down.

Newton says they do have intervenor status at the hearings and continue to follow the Energy East project closely.

She says it’s still unclear when the hearing might resume.
