Snow, Freezing Rain Lead To Slick Roads

Drivers in some areas will be in for a slushy and slick commute on their way to work Tuesday.

A few centimetres of snow fell in Saint John before it changed to rain early Tuesday.

In the Kennebecasis Valley, Sussex, St. Stephen and Fredericton, there could be several hours of freezing rain before the changeover to rain late Tuesday morning.

The rain will switch back to snow everywhere Tuesday night, with about two centimetres expected.

The precipitation will remain as snow in northern New Brunswick, where up to 45 centimetres is forecast in some areas.

Schools in the Anglophone South School District are open, but there are several late buses.

Elsewhere, the Anglophone West School District closed all of its schools Tuesday due to weather and road conditions.

It includes schools in Fredericton, Oromocto, Chipman, Minto, Cambridge-Narrows and Gagetown.

According to New Brunswick 511, Highway 1 is bare with slushy patches from the Canada/U.S. Border to River Glade, as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Highway 7 is bare from Saint John to Finnegan Hill, bare with slushy patches from Finnegan Hill to Lincoln, and partly snow-covered with slushy patches from Lincoln to Fredericton.

All flights are on schedule at the Saint John Airport so far, but there are some delays and cancellations at the airports in Fredericton and Moncton.
