Grand Bay-Westfield Approves COVID Vaccine Policy

Grand Bay-Westfield council has approved a COVID-19 vaccination policy for municipal employees and councillors.

Under the new policy, approved this week, council and staff will be asked to demonstrate their vaccination status, but will not be required to do so.

Those who choose not to or who are not fully vaccinated will be tested weekly and have to wear a mask when within two metres of others.

The new policy also prevents town firefighters who are not fully vaccinated from responding to emergency calls.

Visitors to town facilities will have to wear a mask but can remove it if physical distancing can be maintained.

“Council and Administration are committed to the safety of those working in and visiting Town facilities and will regularly evaluate the effectiveness of this Policy and adjust it as required,” said a news release.

The new policy will come into effect on Sept. 20.
