McGuire Covered Bridge Open Again

The McGuire covered bridge in Elmsville is once again open to some traffic.

The bridge had been closed since late last year due to structural issues.

Saint Croix MLA Greg Thompson said vehicles less than four tonnes in weight and 2.6 metres in height can use the bridge.

Any larger vehicles, including school buses and fire trucks, will not be able to.

Thompson said work will begin on a replacement bridge in the spring and the historic covered bridge will remain in the community for pedestrian use.

A new steel bridge was supposed to be in place before the end of 2018.
