Wednesday Morning Sports For January 2nd

At the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship:

The teams had the day off Tuesday as they gear up for the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Canada will face Finland, Team USA takes on the Czech Republic, Russia goes up against Slovakia, and Switzerland plays Sweden.

In the NHL:

Viktor Arvidsson scored twice as Nashville blanked Philadelphia 4-0.

Elsewhere, Boston doubled up Chicago 4-2 while Vegas blanked Los Angeles 2-0.

The NHL also announced Regina’s Mosaic Stadium will host the league’s fifth Heritage Classic between Calgary and Winnipeg in October.

In the NBA:

Kawhi Leonard had a career-high 45 points to lead the Raptors over Utah 122-116.

Kyle Lowry remained sidelined after receiving anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving injections for his sore lower back on Friday.

In the majors:

ESPN reports free-agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has reached a deal with the New York Yankees.

The 34-year-old was released by the Blue Jays in December — he missed all of last season due to injury.
