Base Gagetown Soldier Charged With Sexual Assault

Sexual assault charges have been laid against a Canadian Armed Forces member serving at Base Gagetown.

Corporal Daniel Gillis of the 2nd Royal Canadian Regiment faces one charge of sexual assault.

The investigation began on August 16, 2018, after a complaint regarding a possible sexual assault earlier in the day at Camp Aldershot in Nova Scotia.

The victim, who was a reservist with The Nova Scotia Highlanders at the time, was interviewed the same day as the complaint was made.

On January 22, 2019, an armed forces member was charged in relation to the August incident.

The matter will now proceed in the civilian justice system.
