MLA Mourns Death Of Auditor General

The death of Canada’s auditor general is being felt here in New Brunswick.

Michael Ferguson passed away from cancer on Saturday at the age of 60.

Before Ferguson was appointed to the role in 2011, he was New Brunswick’s auditor general from 2005 to 2010.

Dorothy Shephard, the MLA for Saint John-Lancaster, says Ferguson was held in high regard not only by politicians, but also the public.

“They relied on him and he really set the bar high for auditor generals in what they deliver to the public in information,” said Shephard.

Shephard, who was first elected to the legislature in 2010, said Ferguson spoke very kindly and strongly but had a lot of facts to back up whatever he was saying.

“When he was taken by Ottawa, I kind of held a little bit of a grudge thinking that Ottawa was taking our talent,” Shephard said with a chuckle.

“He served his country very well and we in New Brunswick are very proud of him and his legacy.”
