It is with heavy hearts that the family of Laurie Ann Janes announces her passing on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
Laurie was born on February 10, 1959, in Saint John, New Brunswick, to the late Gerald and Celia Patricia (Thompson) Janes.
Laurie will be dearly missed by her beloved daughter, Pierrette Janes-Bourque; her siblings, Graham Janes (Beverly) and Alison Janes; her several nieces and nephews; and her cherished dog, Merlin.
In addition to her parents Laurie was predeceased by her brother Dale Janes.
Laurie enjoyed a long and distinguished career in nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick and a Master of Nursing from Dalhousie University. Throughout her career, Laurie held numerous leadership roles, including Clinical Nurse Specialist and Clinical Program Director. She served as a project lead in the establishment of the Community Health Centre and Primary Care Centre at St. Joseph’s Hospital, as well as the lead in the redevelopment of the new Emergency Department at the Saint John Regional Hospital. In the final years before her retirement, Laurie served as Executive Director of the Nurses Association of New Brunswick, where she was widely respected for her dedication to advancing nursing regulation and leadership across the province.
Outside of her professional life, Laurie found great joy in nature and was a member of the Fredericton Nature Club. She loved gardening, hiking, taking long walks with Merlin, knitting, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Laurie’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the physicians and staff of 4BS Neurosurgery and Bobby’s Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Laurie during her illness.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3 (506-634-1701). Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurie’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
