June 11, 1936 – April 8, 2026
It is with sadness but a sense of peace for a long life, well lived, that we announce the passing of June Evelyn Garfield on April 8, 2026, at Shannex – Embassy Hall. She was born in Saint John on June 11, 1936, to the late Florence Garfield.
June was a woman who spoke her mind and did what she wanted. She never shied away from trying new things and she was very determined. She worked for a time selling cars and then she had a job at Northern Electric before she started working as a switchboard operator at the Saint John Regional Hospital for 20 years before retiring. She was very close with her family and lived with some of them for a time, but she preferred to be on her own. She was a homebody, but very personable and hard-working. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
June is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her parents and 6 siblings, Billy, Alfred, Donnie and Betty Garfield, as well as Gail Fisher and Connie Floyd. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Embassy Hall for the compassionate care and kindness shown to June and for making her feel so welcome during her stay there.
Her life was special, but it wouldn’t have been as special without the loving, lifelong friendships she had with Barb Fleming and Fran Urquhart. Thank you for being there for her always.
Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue (506-634-1701). In keeping with June’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. She will be placed to rest with her parents at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
