April 1, 1939 ~ April 17, 2026 (age 87)
Barb passed away on April 17, 2026, at SJRH surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifelong resident of Saint John. Barb was the only child of the late Marjorie (Hanson) & Francis Gilchrist.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Ellen Coombs of Saint John, son, Bradley (Tammy) Coombs of Grand Bay, daughter-in- law, Susan (Allen) Nesbitt, grandchildren, Stacy Coombs (Jeff Campbell) of Sweden, Sean (Jennifer) Coombs of Saint John, Jenna (Patrick) Conley-Beddow and great grandson, Braylon Conley-Beddow of Grand Bay and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Herbert and sons, Bruce & Michael.
She was a salesclerk at Sears Baby Department for 22 years. Then retired to spend time with family & friends, traveling, camping, baking, playing cribbage & bingo.
She camped from age 18 – 86, in 2020, she moved to Bay Breeze Campground with best friends, Betty & Gary Richard, Nora & Terry Lynch, and met others who enabled her to camp until July 2025.
Christmas was very special to Barb, family will always remember her Boxing Day Bashes filled with crazy games, presents, love, & great food.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home (230 Westmorland Road). Visitation is on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 1:00–3:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Oceanview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis or a charity of choice.
