Christina Ellen Whitenect

March 22, 1935 ~ April 23, 2026 (age 91)

Christina Ellen Whitenect lived a life defined by strength, generosity, curiosity, and unmistakable joy. She showed, every single day, what it means to be a woman who leads with heart, lifts others up, and refuses to be limited by expectation.

Predeceased by her father, Alfred (Jack) Frost; mother, Ellen Frost (nee Whitaker); her beloved husband, Donald Ralph Chesley Whitenect; and her sisters Ann McLean, Rita Johnson, and Ellen Jane Clarke, Christina carried their love forward in everything she did. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Alfred, Bert, and Douglas Frost; her children Janet McLeod (Butch), Roger Whitenect (Carolyn), and Susan Simmons (Owen); her grandchildren Donna, Chase, Adam, Kathleen, Julie, Lauren, Thomas, and Maria; and her great-grandchildren Regan, Logan, Spencer, Anastasia, and Charlie.

A proud graduate of Saint John High School in 1953, Christina built a remarkable career at a time when women were often expected to stay small – she did the opposite. She joined the Royal Bank of Canada and rose to the level of Assistant Bank Manager, breaking barriers with quiet determination and sharp intelligence. She went on to work with Foster Wheeler during the refinery expansion, and later with Canada Post, where she played a role in the early implementation of postal codes – helping shape a system Canadians rely on to this day. She continued her work with Canada Post in Rothesay, always bringing her signature dedication and warmth.

But Christina’s accomplishments were never confined to her résumé. She was a lifelong learner and a passionate advocate for education – especially for women. She believed deeply that women could, and should, take up space, try new things, and lead boldly. She supported this belief not only in words but in action, including her contributions to the College Fund Uganda.

From the age of seven, when she began singing in the choir at Stone Church, to her many years at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Christina’s life was rooted in community and connection. She volunteered tirelessly – whether through church, Empty Stocking Funds, or simply noticing someone in need and stepping in without hesitation. She was known to stop the garbage collectors on their route to hand them money for coffee, or pull into a school just to make a donation. If someone needed help, Christina was already on her way.

She built community everywhere she went – and more than that, she was the centre of those communities.

Christina embraced life fully and unapologetically. She travelled, spent winters in Florida, read constantly (always with at least one book on the go), and explored every creative outlet she could find – from sewing and quilting to crafting. She loved music, movies, dancing, and telling stories – especially stories about her family. She was an animal lover, a proud Red Hatter, and someone who never missed a chance to get her hair done and enjoy a good laugh.

She was fearless in trying new things, never intimidated by the world, and always ready to say “yes” to life.

Above all, Christina made time – for everyone. She listened, she encouraged, she showed up. She was a loving friend to many and a constant source of positivity and light. To her family, she was more than a matriarch – she was sunshine.

Christina Ellen Whitenect leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and vibrant living. She showed the women and girls in her life that they could be bold, generous, curious, and joyful all at once. She proved that a life well-lived is one filled with love, laughter, and the courage to keep going, keep learning, and keep giving.

Her light will continue to shine in the many lives she touched.
