A lot of schools in Saint John are really old and about half full so the District Education Council is looking at closing some schools in the South central peninsula and in the North end.
The process involving Lorne Middle school and Brown’s Flat elementary in 2015 was very emotional and heated at times.
During meetings on the future of St. John the Baptist-King Edward and Prince Charles school,
Anglophone South DEC chair Rob Fowler tells CHSJ News they saw tremendous support from the Parent School Support Committees and from groups like Living Saint John and BCAPI.
“A lot of the stuff that we’re doing, this second go at it was developed in conjunction with the PSSC’s. The one good thing to come out of the hearings last year was that people recognize things have to change. The status quo is not an option.” Fowler says “It’s just a matter of how we line up those ducks and how things are rolled out”.
Meetings are now underway to examine the future of Hazen White-St. Francis school and Centennial school. The first meeting for Hazen White-St. Francis is coming up on Tuesday night at the school at 630pm.
