Gerald Hugh “Gerry” Horgan

December 16, 1934  –  June 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Hugh Horgan, with family by his side, on June 5, 2026. Gerald was born on December 16, 1934, in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Frank Horgan and Julia (Cleary) Horgan. Predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Roberta (Fudge) Horgan on June 30, 2025.

Gerald is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Patricia Flecknell (David); son, Peter (Barbara Howe); grandchildren, Jillian (Dale), Meaghan (Jeff), Michele (Barry), Michael (Tiffany) and Shannon (Cody); great-grandchildren, Jane, Hannah, Brielle, Allison, Owen and Cohen. Gerald is also survived by his sister, Janice Bryan (Gerald) of Ottawa, ON; sister-in-law, Valerie Langille and brother-in-law, David Fudge (Elizabeth) all of Saint John, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerald was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Frank (Jeanne) of Don Mills, ON, Barbara Drury (D’Arcy) of Hamilton, ON and Maureen, Harold (Gertrude), Gregory (Frances) all of Saint John, NB.

Gerald, known as “Gerry” to his family and friends, graduated from St. Vincent’s Boys High School. He and Roberta met as high school sweethearts at High Y at the CYO. When they were first married, Gerry worked at Poole’s in the office before pursuing his true calling as an electrician. As a proud member of IBEW Local 502, he worked for many years with O’Brien Electric as an Industrial Electrician before eventually establishing his own business.

Gerry enjoyed his trade and the people he met through it. Many would say he never charged what his work was truly worth! He completed electrical work for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital and also worked on numerous notable buildings, including the Palace, the Cathedral and for the Sisters of Charity. The Sisters were known to frequently call the Horgan household whenever something needed fixing!

Gerry was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #937. He was very active organizing the BINGO games put on in the Knights of Columbus Council Hall on Coburg Street, and before that, he used to run the CYO BINGO.

Dad was always busy. He loved spending time at the family summer camp in Whitehead, tending to his garden, enjoying the river view and relaxing with a cold drink in hand.

Dad was an avid collector. He had large collections of coins, stamps, Royal Doultons, Beanie Babies and pins. Once he started, there was no stopping him. There was always a new one coming out!

Dad would do anything for anyone. While he was known for his dry sense of humour, it is his unforgettable laugh that we will miss most. Nothing brought Dad more joy than being surrounded by family. He cherished time with his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart. His face lit up when they came to visit and his smile never left his face. We also cannot forget the Grand pups he adored, especially Georgia, whose visits always brightened his day.

Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Staff at Shannex Tucker Hall, Portland Place, for the exceptional care, friendship and kindness they showed Dad and us. We greatly appreciate all you have done. Dad always had a smile on his face and genuinely enjoyed spending time with each of you. You welcomed our family every day and evening throughout our visits and we will never forget your compassion.
