Donald Joseph Crawford

December 7, 1936  –  June 6, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family of Donald Joseph Crawford Sr. announce his passing on June 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on December 7, 1936, Donald was the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (Walsh) Crawford. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, community leader, and friend, Donald lived a life defined by service, faith, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen Jean Crawford; his parents, Thomas and Kathleen Crawford; and his sister, Peggy McKee.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Thomas Crawford (Jean), Donna Little (Mike), Wayne Crawford (Heather), Murray Crawford (Kim), Kathleen Kokotailo, Donald Joseph Crawford Jr. (Donna), Christina Snow, Patricia McKenney (Scott), and John Crawford (Carolyn) as well as his brother in law, Hans Nilsson.

He also leaves behind 19 cherished grandchildren, many much-loved great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him greatly.

Donald dedicated 43 years of service to NBTel, where his strong work ethic, leadership, and remarkable ability to get things done enabled him to rise to senior management and ultimately serve as General Manager of the Mobility Department. In that role, he played a key part in establishing the cellular business in New Brunswick, overseeing the development of the network, the marketing strategy, and the relationships with sales partners that helped bring mobile communications to communities across the province. He approached every challenge with efficiency, determination, and vision—qualities that earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, employees, and industry partners throughout his distinguished career.

While Donald was devoted to his profession, his greatest passion was serving others. A man of deep faith, he was actively involved in church life for many years. Whether repairing and maintaining church property, overseeing the Church Army, serving on committees and boards, or lending his skills wherever needed, Donald believed in putting his faith into action. He was the kind of person who saw a need and immediately stepped forward to help, often taking the lead and inspiring others to join him.

His commitment to community service extended far beyond the church. Donald was involved in numerous community projects throughout his life, dedicating countless hours to causes and organizations that benefited others. He was a natural leader who took initiative, organized projects, and worked tirelessly to make his community a better place. Many of his children fondly remember being recruited to help with these projects, learning firsthand the value of service, responsibility, and caring for others.

Blessed with a mechanical mind and a gift for problem-solving, Donald could fix almost anything. His skills, and willingness to lend a hand were well known among family, friends, and neighbours. No matter the challenge, he could usually be counted on to find a solution.

Above all else, Donald was a devoted family man. He loved his family deeply and spent his life caring for those around him. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and found immense joy in watching his family grow. He was equally devoted to caring for his parents and in-laws, always ensuring they were supported and looked after.

Donald also found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, and many of his grandchildren treasure memories of quiet days spent alongside him on the water. Those moments reflected the gentle, patient nature that endeared him to so many.

Donald’s life was one of service, generosity, leadership, and love. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, compassion, leadership, and community involvement that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His family finds comfort in the countless lives he touched and the example he set through a lifetime of caring for others.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Embassy Hall for their kindness, care, and compassion.

Though he is no longer with us, Donald’s kindness, and love will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
