May 16, 1978 – June 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, the family of Chris Worthman announce his peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Saint John Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 16, 1978, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was the son of the late Chris (Mutt) Worthman and Helen Picco.
Chris proudly served as a Paramedic and Firefighter in the Saint John area for many years. He had a big heart and was dedicated to helping people in their time of need. Chris lived life with enthusiasm and an adventurous spirit. Whether casting a line on the water, carving down a ski slope, or teeing up on the fairway, he embraced the outdoors in every season. His love of the game extended well beyond his years with Mt. Pearl minor baseball. Sport was simply in his nature. When he wasn’t chasing the next adventure closer to home, Chris loved travelling with Leanne and could be found exploring new destinations. Some of his most cherished moments, though, were gatherings around a campfire at the cottage in the company of the people he loved most.
He is predeceased by his grandfather George Picco, grandmother Sarah Picco, father Chris Worthman, mother Helen Picco. Chris is survived by his wife Leanne Sherwood, daughters Sarah Worthman and Cassidy Richard; brother Chad (Pamela), nieces Sophia and Ava, special cousins Joanne Ivey and Bonnie Hutton; Leanne’s parents Milt and Lois Sherwood, and brothers Reid and Ross; and special person Joan Murphy.
Our family would like to extend our deepest appreciation for the exceptional compassion, genuine kindness and professionalism shown by Dr. Gray, Dr. Attard, Dr. G. Langille, and the many nursing departments at the Saint John Regional Hospital. We would also like to thank Sobey’s Pharmacy, the palliative care and paramedicine teams, who were always patient and took the time to ensure that Chris was receiving optimum care. Your compassion will always be warmly remembered.
