Students Hope Fundraiser Concert Will Get Them New Stage Lights

Students in Saint Andrews are hoping one more fundraiser will put them over the top for new stage lighting and a sound system.

It’s been twelve years since the stage lights were on at Sir James Dunn Academy, and Grade 11 student, Mary Cunningham says the sound system has seen better days too. She says they have raised the majority of the $60 to $70,000 needed to replace both systems.

She tells us they have a big concert planned for this Saturday night as a fundraiser that will hopefully cover the remaining costs.

“We’re hosting a Prince Edward Island celtic band called Fiddlers’ Sons. They’ve won an ECMA, they’ve won PEI Music awards, so they’re a really great band. So they’re going to come down and play a show for us at the school.”

Cunningham says they are selling four hundred tickets for the show, and at the same time the SJDA Grade 11 and 12 classes will be running a canteen to raise money for their Graduation.

“The main idea is the concert, and we’re using our stage and showing people the potential of this venue when we raise the money to be able to replace the lighting and the sound. So not only is it going to be a really great event, and a great fundraiser, but it also shows people the potential for what our stage can be used for.”

Cunningham says tickets are going fast, and its recommended you get them early, either at Scotiabank in Saint Andrews, or by calling Sir James Dunn Academy at 506-529-5010.

The concert starts at 7:30pm Saturday night, April 28th.
