Saint John EMO Warns Residents To Stay Off Train Tracks

Walking along the rail tracks is not only dangerous — it’s illegal.

That’s the latest message from Saint John EMO during this flooding event. The organization is warning people to stay off the train tracks as there are freight trains that run every day.

Director Kevin Clifford says there’s a small, isolated area off of Westfield Road and some people are using the rail line to get to and from their home.

“They could have headsets in,” says Clifford. “Some of the access paths are very narrow and do not allow for a person to step aside. Everybody thinks you’d be able to kind of quickly move away yet we have train accidents train accidents are part of our community history.”

He says the river is expected to crest tonight but it will take several days for water levels to return to normal.
