Wage Supplements For Tourism Operators Who Hire Unemployed Seniors

The province is offering $2.1 million in wage supplements to seasonal tourism operators who hire unemployed New Brunswickers aged 55 and over.

The Tourism Employment Fund for Seniors will target seasonal tourism operators that typically downsize or close at the end of the summer season.

It’s expected between 600 and 850 placements will be provided this season — they’ll each last up to 12 weeks at a maximum of 40 hours a week.

Private sector employers will be eligible for wage supplements of 50 per cent of the minimum wage for placements, while those in the non-profit sector will be eligible to receive a 100 per cent wage reimbursement.
