Showcase To Feature LGBTQ+ Artists

The contributions of the LGBTQ plus community are being celebrated in a new art showcase.

Executive Director at Sunbury Shores in Saint Andrews, Claire Shiplett says their Pride Showcase features work from many local artists in Charlotte County, as well as other parts of New Brunswick.

Shiplett says the showcase is featured in the “community-minded” area of the gallery, and Pride Month gave them a great opportunity.

“We have two gallery spaces at Sunbury Shores. The one closest to Water Street features works that are by practicing and emerging artists who apply to exhibit in our gallery. So those are juried exhibitions. Then we have our harbour-view gallery, which is the back gallery that faces the water. That is a community-minded space, so those are exhibitions that we feel are important to showcase work by the community, or to bring in new works to kind of bring those creative seeds into Saint Andrews. So there’s a lot of flexibility in that space, and it’s a space that’s really for the community. The Pride showcase was a great opportunity to celebrate some of the LGBTQ plus artists who live in New Brunswick and contribute to the arts sector.”

Shiplett says they will have a Pride flag flying during the exhibition, and the back windows are painted with a giant rainbow, “We’re really trying to showcase that pride and celebrate the community.”

Sunbury Shores will also be opening another exhibition titled “Cuba: Contemporary Prints” with prints from contemporary Cuban printmakers.

The Pride showcase and the Cuba: Contemporary Prints showcase are both free to the public to view, and they will be on display until June 28th.

The opening is Friday, June 8th, from 5-7pm.
