Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative Celebrates 20th Anniversary In Saint John

The Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative or B-CAPI celebrated its 20th anniversary with a luncheon on Thursday that highlighted its accomplishments as it looks to end generational poverty in Saint John.

One speaker was a very emotional Jen Brown a 26-year-old woman who despite a series of pitfalls managed to escape generational poverty by becoming the community schools coordinator at Hazen White School which she attended.

“It is groups like this that are truly going to change these lives and give the students a shot at life, If the Promise Partnership had just existed a few years earlier, I believe a lot of the kids I grew up with would be in a similar situation as myself,” says Brown, who openly shed tears during her speech

Jen Brown credited the hard work of B-CAPI with helping her and many others to escape generational poverty in Saint John.

You can hear Jen Brown’s story on our news magazine Pulse NB on Sunday after the 9 AM news and again at 9 PM.
