Canada’s population is growing faster than it ever has before according to new figures from Stats Canada.
Preliminary estimates show the country’s population surpassed 37 million people on April 1st.
It only took two years and two months to add another one million people which is the shortest period of time ever.
Statscan says immigration was the main source of growth.
In the first quarter of this year, the population increased in every province and territory except Newfoundland and Labrador.
Nunavut, Ontario and Alberta had the highest population growth rates.
New Brunswick’s population now sits at just over 761,000 – an increase of 0.1 percent from January 1st to April 1st.
