Of the 541 Syrian families that moved to Saint John last year, 90 percent stayed in the city.
That from President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Saint John Shilo Boucher.
She says the city is even experiencing secondary migration.
Boucher says a couple of Syrian families came in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and they were reunited with family here in Saint John.
The Y isn’t sure how many newcomers will arrive in 2017, but typically between 67-70 newcomers come to Saint John every year.
Boucher says they should find out the exact number later this month.
She says the high retention rate in Saint John is proof the newcomers are enjoying the city.
