Health Risks Of Wire-Bristle BBQ Brushes Being Reviewed By Health Canada

Health Canada is reviewing the health risks of wire-bristle barbecue brushes, after the filing of at least 9 reports.

Spokesperson Tyler Goodier is with the risk management bureau and says a few years ago they started to get indications that some of these brushes were losing bristles that were getting stuck to grills, then food, then getting swallowed.

He tells Acadia Broadcasting they decided to open up a risk assessment on this issue.

Goodier says they’ll be able to find out if the bristles cause severe or minor injuries when swallowed, long term health effects and how often it happens.

He says they may also be able to find out if it happens more often with a particular type of brush.

Goodier says they’re aiming to have this done by the end of the summer.
