Crime Rates Are Down In Saint John And Moncton

Crime rates in Saint John and Moncton fell last year as Stats Canada reports the crime severity index for individual cities.

The crime severity index for Saint John measured 52.7 compared to Moncton at 75.7. The Canadian average was at 71.

The crime rate in Saint John dropped by 8 per cent in 2016 and by 9 per cent in Moncton.

The index rose last year by 1 per cent for Canada as a whole but, even at that, is still 29 per cent below what was reported in 2006.

The highest crime severity index was recorded in Regina followed by Saskatoon, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
