Possible changes include recording a short-term licence suspension on the driver’s abstract, creating a vehicle impoundment program for impaired drivers and introducing a mandatory alcohol ignition interlock device program.
Other suggestions include creating a 24-hour roadside suspension for driver unfitness and providing law enforcement the authority to temporarily remove drivers from the road.
The new measures should be in place by early November.
