Long Remains Confident Energy East Will Be Approved and Built

The National Energy Board continues to examine the impacts of the Energy East pipeline project but it’s slow progress has some doubting it will ever go through.

Last week, the NEB announced some areas it will be focusing on including the risks associated with oil spills.

When asked if this project will ever happen, Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says he thinks people should have faith in the process and he knows from the outside that the extra steps and regulations look cumbersome and prohibitive.

He says this proces allows the government to make the right decision with the right information adding they can go back to Canadians saying we have done everything we can do, we have heard from all parties and this is our decision.

Long says it’s about putting the right rules and regulations in to get approval for this pipeline from Alberta to New Brunswick and we have to remember that it’s going through indigenous territories, provinces and cities so we have to be open and transparent.
