The Vitalite Health Network wants to find answers to some of the problems which have been plaguing the Restigouche Hospital Centre in Campbellton.
Vitalite president and CEO Gilles Lanteigne says an outside consultant has been hired to determine why many staff members are out on long-term disability, why morale is so low and why so many work-related accidents have taken place at the hospital.
Quebec-based mental health expert Dr. Simon Racine, whose work in the mental health field has been recognized nationwide, has been hired at a cost of roughly $40,000 to undertake a review of both staff and patient care at the provincial mental health facility.
In collaboration with the Department of Health, Dr. Racine will carry out the review over the next few months and prepare a report by spring.
Lanteigne adds an action plan will be developed from that report with recommendations which could be implemented at the hospital.
