Critics Say Medavie Health Deal Is Privatization

The Vitalite Health Network is calling the new agreement privatization and maintains the Extra-Mural Program should remain in the public system.

Vitalite CEO Gilles Lanteigne believes splitting up components of the health care system will not achieve desired results.

“Obviously we’re very worried about the quality of care during this transition period because we are basically dismantling a program that has been long established,” Lanteigne says.

The Horizon Health Network has a different stance noting that Medavie is a not a private enterprise and this is not privatization but simply another partner in the health care system.

Progressive Conservative health critic Brian Macdonald says the Extra-Mural Program was one of the one of the things that government was doing well and he adds “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”
