The Finance Committee has approved the proposed Saint John Water budget for 2018 but there is unease over how high the water rates have become with another $72 increase planned for next year.
Common Councillor Greg Norton describes water rates as being excruciatingly high and then was taken by surprise at word there could be more water main breaks next year.
Saint John Water Commissioner Brent McGovern says water rates will rise to $14 hundred and 40 dollars a year for flat rate users in 2019 and then after that, any increases will be tied to inflation. An evaluation on universal water metering will be complete next year.
