Two New Thoracic Surgeons Mean Horizon Has A Full Complement

A partnership between the New Brunswick Medical Society, the Provincial Government and Horizon Health has led to the hiring of two new thoracic surgeons.

The two new hires combined with the return of two thoracic surgeons from leave means the thoracic surgical services are now fully staffed.

Dr. Serge Melanson, chief of staff, for the Moncton Hospital says they understand the importance of a full complement of thoracic surgeons working in the provnice.

Dr. Smarika Shrestha started working at the Moncton Hospital earlier this summer and Dr. Julius Poon began working at the Saint John Regional Hospital this month.

Thoracic surgery is the branch of surgery that treats the structures of the chest with the exception of the heart.
