Senate Hears From Inquiry Into Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women

The Senate has been told the Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Children has not asked for more time to complete its work. That word coming from Marion Buller who chairs the commission who does say the inquiry would be able to do a better job if given more time.

She also told Senators the inquiry is being constrained by government policies and procedures which are not mean’t for an inquiry that’s under a time deadline to do its work.

Buller many of the women who have been marginalised want to talk to the commission privately rather than in a public setting with cameras and lawyers.

Senators were also told by Commissioner Michelle Audette that criticism voiced during the summer about the inquiry has been taken to heart and changes are being made.
