PC Leader Blaine Higgs slams Gallant government over its marijuana strategy

The Leader of the provincial PC party doesn’t think the Gallant government should be getting into the marijuana distribution business.

Blaine Higgs says he knows pot will be legalized next July but thinks the Gallant government is taking the wrong approach on distribution.

Higgs agrees government should regulate the industry, but let the distributors do the marketing and selling.

Higgs says the government is spending $80 million dollars to guarantee distributors have enough pot in stock and he wonders if the distributors don’t think there will be a big enough market for it and asked for the guarantee.

Higgs expects whatever price is set by government to sell to the public, dealers will simply sell it for less on the street.

Higgs made the comments following a speech to the Saint John Rotary Club on Monday
