Disasters At Home And Abroad Keep The Atlantic Red Cross Busy

While a lot of the earthquakes and hurricanes are not happening around here, it has kept the staff and volunteers at the Red Cross very busy.

Atlantic spokersperson Dan Bedell tells us it all began with the ice storm in Northern New Brunswick at the beginning of the year.

He says from there they moved right into serious flooding in Ontario and Quebec.

Bedell says the crisis involving the B.C. wildfires began in late June continues to impact thousands of people to this day.

Up to 50 staff and volunteers were deployed from Atlantic Canada to help in B.C. and some went out more than once.

He says the Mexican Red Cross have the equipment and teams to deal with earthquake recovery so they don’t need people or resources but what they do need is financial aid.

The Canadian Red Cross has ongoing appeals where Canadians can donate to help those impacted by the BC Wildfires but also Hurricanes Irma and Harvey and the earthquakes in Mexico.
