A 30 year old Somali refugee is facing charges of terrorism and attempted murder in Edmonton after 4 pedestrians were hit by a U-haul before it rolled over as well as an attack on a police officer directing traffic outside Commonwealth Stadium where a CFL game was being played.
An ISIS flag was found in the front seat of the car that was used to ram the police officer. He suffered stab wounds to his face and head as well as severe abrasions on his arms but will make a full recovery.
Federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says it appears, at least early on in the investigation, that only the one person was involved.
The RCMP say the man in custody, identified as Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, had been investigated for radicalisation but there was insufficient evidence to lay any charges.
Two of the pedestrians who were injured have been released from hospital.
Meantime in France, two young women, aged 17 and 20, were stabbed to death by a terrorist at the train station in Marseille. The man who stabbed them was screaming God is great. He was shot and killed by French soldiers.
