The Gallant Government is using tax increases to fund its increased spending while not doing anything to reduce the provincial debt according to the Opposition Conservatives.
Debate on the provincial budget got underway in the Legislature. Conservative M-L-A Bruce Fitch of Riverview accuses the provincial government of raising fees left, right and centre. He charges the Gallant Government has increased fees to the tune of half a billion dollars swince assuming office.
Fitch says there will be a carbon tax next year and talk of a sugar tax. Premier Brian Gallant appeared to rule out a sugar tax on soft drinks when asked about it in Saint John recently.
