Local Volunteers Hope Backpack Project Helps Homeless In Saint John

A group of volunteers are helping the city’s homeless feel more comfortable during the cold winter months.

Lead Organizer for Backpacks for Homeless in Saint John Noah Donovan says the goal is to fill backpacks with items like socks, mitts, hats, snacks, blankets and more.

If you’re wondering what other items would be useful, Donovan recommends asking yourself what you would like, or need, if you were leaving on the streets.

Drop-off locations include Rothesay Town Hall and the 8th floor of Saint John City Hall.

Donovan says they’ll be collecting items until February 28th.

Volunteers will then distribute the backpacks to the city’s homeless.

Donovan has been working with Backpacks for Homeless in Saint John for three years and calls the feeling of helping someone in need “incomparable to anything else”.
