It will surprise some and annoy others to learn that for highway plows to operate safely in a storm they shouldn’t go faster than 50 kilometres an hour or less.
Emily Richard of Gateway Operations says the highways were in rough shape early on Monday in the blizzard.
She says a no travel advisory recommendation was in place by 5am on Monday when visibility was next to nil and snow was covering the highways.
Residents are STRONGLY advised to stay off the road for the remainder of the day. Potential for accident is very high.

Richard says when the conditions worsen like they did on Monday it becomes a safety concern for our snow plow operators themselves when the visibility is so poor they can’t see where they are going.
